Canada Pre-Removal Risk Assessment

Canada is committed to the idea that people facing deportation should not be sent back to a place where they face persecution. Individuals who have been denied asylum in Canada and are at risk of removal may be eligible for a Pre-Removal Risk Assessment (PRRA).

What is a Pre-Removal Risk Assessment (PRRA)

You will likely be deported from Canada if the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has issued a Pre-Removal Risk Assessment (PRRA). The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) provides eligible applicants with an application called a Pre-Removal Risk Assessment, or “PRRA,” which allows applicants to demonstrate that they would be safe if removed from Canada and that life will be in danger.
Generally, PRRA invitations are sent to people who can be removed from Canada. This indicates that you have been issued a deportation order. You can assess your risk before being removed from and brought back from Canada. Think of it as a small paper-based asylum application.

Eligibility Criteria for Applying PRRA

Sponsors must complete the online Interest to Sponsor form to apply. Some potential sponsors may not be invited to apply because the volume of “Interested in Sponsor” applications may exceed intake. Generally, the form requires the following details:
  1. Names of sponsors and recipients of their contributions
  2. Surname and given name
  3. Applicant’s date of birth
  4. Country of birth
  5. Residential Addresses
  6. Sponsor’s Current Status in Canada
  7. Family size
  8. Sponsor’s income during the last three years.
  9. Details about the person who will receive the sponsorship.
The application will be handled at a Canadian immigration office if the Canadian sponsor is accepted.

Who Cannot Apply for PRRA?

You must complete an interest form for sponsorship, providing basic details such as the applicant and sponsor’s name, address, date of birth, etc. If your data is complete, you will get a confirmation number.
The government accepts only a limited number of applications for sponsorship. If your application is accepted, you will receive an invitation to sponsor your parents and grandparents.
After receiving the invitation, you have sixty days to submit a complete application.

Essential Elements to Address a PRRA Submission

A standard PRRA application should address some of the risk factors listed below:

It is at your threat;

Ineffective state protection is in place;

There is danger everywhere in the nation;

In general, the risk is not taken;

The threat is not a natural by-product of legal punishments;

There is no risk due to poor health or maintenance;
