Canada PR Card Renewal Application

It is recommended that permanent residents of Canada always have a valid PR card. A permanent resident with a PR card is not only able to prove their status but can also move in and out of the country without restriction. In case a PR card of a permanent resident is about to expire or has already expired, they are eligible to apply for a new card.

What is a Canada PR Card?

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issues identification cards called Permanent Resident Cards (PR Cards). It includes a photo of a person and documentation of their PR status. A person can use their PR card after obtaining PR status and successfully landing in Canada. The card, which is usually good for five years but occasionally only one, is a valid form of identification when entering Canada.
Since the PR card was introduced in 2002, it is recommended that all permanent residents obtain one to demonstrate their legal status easily. Previously, this could only be done through printed immigration documents. When you return to Canada from another country, you must have a current Permanent Resident (PR) card to confirm that you are a permanent resident.
